Presidential Election Brief: Trump Elected President
Donald Trump wins the 2024 presidential election, a red wave sweeps the nation, and Republicans are on the verge of taking both chambers of Congress. Earlier today, the Associated Press projected that Trump was the winner after the president-elect won the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Michigan. At the time, Trump was also comfortably ahead in Nevada. the votes are still being tallied in a number of states, but Trump has already secured 295 electoral votes, well over the 270 that are needed to clinch the presidency. By comparison, Harris has won 226 electoral votes. Additionally, so far Trump has received nearly 5 million more total votes than Harris. The president-elect has received more than 72 million individual tallies, compared to more than 67 million for the vice president.
